Flickr’s Explore page is one of the most beloved features for photographers in the Flickr community. It’s a way to seek inspiration and discover amazing talent from the community, or to connect with photographers who share similar interests.
Our Explore algorithm displays a rotating array of images from Flickr members every day based on inputs that speak to the following:
- Interestingness - An internal Flickr algorithm that determines which photos are interesting to our community.
- Activity - Involvement in the Flickr community, like groups joined and photos with trending tags.
If you’ve made it into Explore for a given day, you’ll get a comment from the official Flickr account with congratulations. If you’d like to discuss Explore, we recommend Flickr groups like "in explore", where the community is quite active.
Explore takeovers
Explore takeovers are manually curated by the Flickr team to celebrate specific communities and themes on Flickr. These takeovers happen on the fourth Thursday of each month.
In the past, we’ve done Explore takeovers to highlight photography of the Black Lives Matter movement, Polaroid Week, Inktober, Black photographers and Black history, women photographers and women's history, and the Earth. If you'd like a sneak peek of a given month's Explore takeover, join Flickr Social and monitor the group discussions. If you’d like to learn more about how Explore normally works, check out our Explore report.
