Set the Content Type for your Flickr uploads

Flickr offers four different content type categories. Putting your content into the correct category is important as it ensures members view their preferred type of content.

When you upload content to Flickr, you need to assign each item to a category.

The content type categories are as follows:

• Photos/ Videos
• Screenshots/ Screencasts
• Illustration/ Art/ Animation/ CGI or other non-photographic images*
• Virtual Photography/ Machinima

Regardless of content type, it is against Flickr guidelines to upload content where you do not own the copyright. For more information on copyright guidelines see this article. 

*We encourage members to select “Art/Illustration” as the content type for any AI-generated images. This helps members who prefer not to encounter this type of content to easily find and filter it out during their searches.

Set your default content type

1. Log into your account on a web browser and head to your account settings.
2. Click on the Privacy & Permissions tab.
3. Scroll down to Defaults for new uploads
4. Click Edit next to the “What Safety Level and Content Type will your Photostream have” setting.
5. Scroll down to What type of images do you normally upload?
6. Select your content type | Click SAVE CHANGES.

Change the content type for a single item

1. Log into your account on a web browser | click on the photo page.
2. Scroll down to the Additional Info section.
3. Next to Set Content Type select the type you would like the item to have.

Change the content type for multiple items

1. Log into your account on a web browser.
2. Hover over You | click Organize.
3. Drag the items you are wishing to edit into the batch area.
4. Click Permissions.
5. Click Set content type.
6. Select the setting you wish to apply.
7. Click CHANGE CONTENT TYPE.
