Troubleshooting uploading issues

Please try each suggested troubleshooting step in order and check to see if the issue is resolved before moving on.

Common uploading issues

Check the file format & size

  • Invalid photo error: The file might not be supported. Try opening the file in an image editing app and re-saving the file in a different format.
  • Format: Check the items you are trying to upload to ensure they meet our upload requirements listed here: Flickr upload requirements.
  • Batch uploads: If you are uploading a batch of items, try uploading smaller batches, or one item at a time.

General troubleshooting

Use a stable connection

A stable internet connection is necessary to upload large files. An unstable or slow internet connection will cause the upload to boot out or fail. Avoid switching back & forth from different connections to ensure smooth uploading.

Update your operating system

Flickr is designed to work best on the current version of your device’s operating system. If you're running an old version of the OS, Flickr may not function properly.

Try a different device

Are you experiencing the same issue across multiple devices? If not, then we recommend that you try the following on your affected device:

  • Reboot your device and try loading the site again.
  • Check you’re running the latest version of the operating system on your device.
  • Temporarily disable antivirus, anti-spyware, and firewall products.

Manual upload troubleshooting

Web browser

Flickr app

Check your web browser

You'll need to check that the browser you’re using is up to date and that it is listed as one of our supported browsers. See our help article here for further information.

If you continue to have trouble after updating your browser, we recommend that you try the following:

Trash the cache

Update the app

We often identify widespread issues quickly and push a fix through an app update. If you're not using the current version of the app, go grab the latest build in your device's app store.

Auto-Uploadr troubleshooting (Pro only)

Know before you start troubleshooting

What gets uploaded:

  • Only items from your device's default photo & video folder will be uploaded.
  • Only unique items that haven't been uploaded before get backed-up.

    • Transferring photos from an old phone to a new phone can cause duplications as the Uploadr sees them as new items.
    • Keep in mind, if you edit and save over the original image on your device, it may upload it as a new image. Edits may include: Editing the image within a third-party app, rotating the image, resizing the image.

  • Items that meet our upload requirements listed here.

Video processing issues

  • "Uploadr Processing" message: Videos take 30-60 minutes to process depending on file size (similar to uploading hundreds of photos). Keep your app open during processing for faster upload times.
  • Upload failures: Ensure videos are under 1GB and your account safety level isn't set to "restricted."

Duplicate upload issues

  • Items uploading twice: Only new, unique content gets backed up. Transferring photos between devices may create duplicates that Uploadr treats as new items.

Missing content

  • Photos/videos not uploading: Only content in your device's default photo and video folder will be uploaded automatically.
  • Permissions not enabled: Ensure Flickr has permission to access your photos and videos. See our guide: Enable permissions for the Flickr app.
  • App not staying active: Open and interact with the Flickr app daily for a few minutes to keep Auto-Uploadr running. Background apps need regular interaction to stay "active."
